When confronted by a hostile suspect or scenario you are to make a decision with how you as a law enforcement officer will react and attempt to gain control.
You must try your best to follow the UoF Continuum.
De-Escalation is a must while operating as a LEO. You are to try your best to calm a situation within reason and under officer discretion.
Where de-escalation tactics must not be used is in active shooter scenarios where Level 5 UoF (Code Red) may be utilized.
Force for Force is a term some deputies may be aware of but we do not actively implement in LSCSO. Officer discretion can be utilized however we still need to ensure we are not wasting resources in situations.
IE: 4 suspects with pistols -> not all responding officers NEED rifles.
Less than Lethal:
Lethal Force:
Tackling, Fists, Flashlight, Baton, Taser, Beanbag Shotgun
The reasonable belief that the equipment used may cause serious injury / loss of life.
You shall not use a taser or other types of less lethal when a suspect is:
Climbing a ladder;
In a body of water;
Near a ledge which could lead to a fall from height.
