Ride Along Policy

Purpose:

The Ride Along Program of the Los Santos County Sheriff's Office (LSCSO) is designed to provide civilians with an opportunity to gain insight into the duties and responsibilities of law enforcement officers. It aims to foster positive relationships between law enforcement and the community by offering firsthand experiences of the agency's operations.

Eligibility:

  • Participants must be at least 17 years of age.

  • Participants must not have any felony convictions.

  • Participants must not have any outstanding warrants.

  • Participants must complete and sign the required liability waiver and release forms.

Application Process:

  • Interested individuals must submit a Ride Along Application to the LSCSO at least three (3) days prior to the desired ride along date.

  • Applications will be reviewed by the LSCSO Command Staff, who may conduct a background check on the applicant.

  • Upon approval, the applicant will be notified of their scheduled ride along date and assigned to a deputy.

Guidelines:

  • Participants must dress in business casual attire.

  • Participants must follow all instructions provided by the assigned deputy.

  • Participants must remain in the vehicle unless instructed otherwise by the deputy.

  • Participants must not interfere with law enforcement activities or investigations.

  • Participants must maintain confidentiality regarding any sensitive information observed during the ride along.

Safety Precautions:

  • Participants will be provided with a safety briefing prior to the commencement of the ride along.

  • Participants must wear their seatbelt at all times while in the vehicle.

Duration:

  • Ride alongs typically last for a maximum of 8 hours, subject to the discretion of the assigned deputy.

  • Extensions may be granted based on operational needs and availability.

Termination:

  • The LSCSO reserves the right to terminate a ride along at any time for reasons including but not limited to safety concerns or violations of policy.

  • Participants who fail to adhere to the guidelines outlined in this policy may be subject to immediate termination of their ride along
